had ordered the Rc Boat Kit and then printed the catamaran in PETG Red Transparent.
All installed and tested in the pool. It was really fun.

I finished installing a "MakerKit RC Boat" I had received, into my previously printed "MAKEROAD Dragon Boat (Model ID:M1000189846)" model.
It seems to be working. But for now, I’ve only tested it in a sink, and I need to find a larger body of water to continue the tests.

🎯 Core design concept
There is no shortage of 1/24 drift cars on the market, but they can either be purchased as finished products or printed according to existing blueprints. I want to make a car that I draw myself from the first line - without compromising on standard parts, space, replacing the motor, or relying solely on mechanical structure to tame high-speed into controllable drift power.
The whole car weighs about 200 grams, rear wheel drive, adjustable wheelbase of 98-110mm, wheelbase of 78-82mm, suitable for mainstream 1/24 hard shell. 95% of the structure is 3D printed, with only two metal through center columns for the secondary gear shaft and drive shaft, and the rest are all independently manufactured.
During the design process, reference was made to the structural logic and geometric layout of mainstream mosquito bike frames such as HT3, Jingshang, LSD, etc. Modeling with Rhino, one week for ideation, one week for drawing, and one week for printing and testing.
⚙️ Detailed design of modules
1. Transmission System: Secondary Belt Reduction+TPU Self Printing Belt
The 28000 rpm motor of MAKEROAD has sufficient torque and high speed. The rear axle gear is limited by ground clearance, and the outer diameter cannot exceed 12mm. Single stage deceleration cannot withstand it at all. The solution is to add an intermediate shaft and perform a two-stage deceleration:
Motor 12T → Intermediate shaft 32T to 12T → Rear shaft 16T
The total reduction ratio is 3.556, and the theoretical top speed is about 40km/h
All belts are printed with TPU 95A flexible material, GT2 tooth shape, 3mm width, fully customizable length, no need to accommodate market specifications
The rear axle adopts CVD universal joint transmission, which provides smooth power and releases the freedom of suspension movement
The front wheels are driven and directly fixed to the steering cup, eliminating the need for differential and front drive shaft
2. Suspension system: independent suspension+material elastic deformation
Both front and rear are independently suspended, with an effective travel of 3mm. The front upper swing arm adopts a three-stage I-section, balancing lightweight and bending strength.
Due to its small size, the traditional ball head connection has been cancelled. The small horizontal interference generated by unequal length double A-arms during suspension motion is completely absorbed by the elastic deformation of the rod and shock absorber material. This is a design trade-off that simplifies complexity by replacing mechanical joints with material properties, resulting in fewer parts and more direct assembly.
3. Steering system: servo direct drive+diagonal pull rod
The steering adopts servo direct drive combined with inclined rod pull rod. The servo end diagonal rod is about 45 °, the wheel end diagonal rod is 30 °, and the maximum steering angle is about 45-50 °. After changing to 30 °, not only did it solve the interference between the wheels and shock absorbers during extreme steering, but it also increased the steering angle. The Ackermann characteristic can be fine tuned by adjusting the rod angle and servo arm hole position.
4. Modularization and 3D printing technology
The chassis is divided into five independent modules: front suspension assembly, rear axle assembly, intermediate shaft assembly, servo seat, and motor seat. The entire vehicle is fixed with unified screws and has no buckle structure. Any damaged module can be replaced separately without disassembling the whole vehicle.
The frame material is PLA+/PETG, and the transmission belt is TPU 95A. Only the secondary gear shaft and drive shaft of the entire vehicle use metal through center pillars, while all others are printed. The vehicle structure is autonomous and controllable, and parts can be printed and replaced at any time.
5. Adjustable wheelbase and wheelbase
The rear axle assembly is designed for multi gear installation, and the wheelbase can be adjusted within the range of 98-110mm without the need to reprint any structural components. The wheelbase is 78-82mm, which can be flexibly adjusted by replacing narrow tires or adjusting the wheel hub degree, and is compatible with mainstream 1/24 hard shells on the market.
