#The print work that I feel the most accomplished this year#
As a die hard fan of Pok é mon, the Water Arrow Turtle is like the white moonlight of my childhood! The figurines on the market are either intricate details or price assassins. They simply grit their teeth and use 3D printing to create a one-to-one model. Although the process is brutal, the final product is truly amazing!
At first, I wanted to directly search for ready-made models, but I searched the entire internet without finding any satisfactory ones - either the texture of the turtle shell was pasted into a ball, or the limbs were out of proportion like a deformed turtle. I had no choice but to manually modify it myself. I used Blender to take screenshots of the animation and meticulously edited the details, changing every scale of the turtle shell, the texture of the cannon barrel, and even the curvature of the eyes no less than ten times. It took me two long nights to finish the model, and the software crashed three times in the middle, almost dropping the keyboard directly!
When printing, there are even more problems! The water arrow turtle has a huge number of parts, including the shell, limbs, barrel, and base, which can be easily damaged. Only five colors of consumables are used. The most frustrating part is the barrel, which has a hollow and slender structure. It can be drawn out at a slightly faster printing speed, and when the support is reduced, it deforms. Three versions of the barrel were scrapped, and the mentality collapsed twice. Finally, the printing speed was reduced to 25mm/s, and it took me 12 hours to finally produce the perfect barrel.
After assembly, it still needs to be polished and colored, using sandpaper to gradually remove burrs from coarse to fine. The turtle shell was sprayed with matte paint to restore its texture, and the polished surface of the gun barrel gave it a more metallic feel. It took a whole week of tossing and turning. When the finished product stands in front of my desk, I immediately freeze in place! This detail and proportion are even more fragrant than buying a figurine!
Now this water arrow turtle is the C-seat of my desk. Every time my friends come, I have to praise it for a long time. Looking at it, I feel like all the staying up late and crashing are worth it! Indeed, what you make yourself is the most meaningful!
